It Doesn’t Get much Better…
My 32nd Birthday began with a yummy buffet breakfast. That’s how you start all Saturdays here in Oahu. Willow had arranged for me to take a 9am Ashtanga yoga class followed by an 11am massage. The yoga class was outside overlooking the crashing North Shore waves. Funny enough, the teacher was late and the students wanted to get class started so I offered to start teaching. I taught about five minutes before the teacher showed up – it was nice to know I still had it in me. I haven’t taught much since Fisher was born, but it all came rolling out of my mouth.
Class ended and I strolled 10 feet further to the spa. Showered, steamed, lounged a bit and then had one of the best massages of my life. And I’m quite a massage snob, so you can trust that it was truly magnificent. Afterwards, I continued my stroll up to the room to find heavenly Hawaiian flowers in the room and on the deck and Birthday balloons everywhere. Willow and fisher arrived a few minutes later. We lounged, opened presents from mom and dad (super cool baby swim dvds, hot flip flops and a comfy beach robe), Courtney and Abby (Delicious chocolate, magazines and a certificate that entitles me to live like a child for the rest of my life – you have to read this thing!) and my men. Willow somehow managed during his 12+ hour work days to get all of these incredible local treasures. A handmade necklace which he picked out the pendant and stones, earrings to match, the coolest little Hawaiian wooden sign, and a yummy candle filled with sea pieces (see pictures).
Off we went to eat lunch at Ola’s – the best beach restaurant ever. It’s the best because the food is so good , it’s downstairs and the tables are on the sand so Fisher can play while we eat and get our drink on. I had Thai chicken wraps, W a pulled pork sandwich. We sipped Mai Tai’s and let Fisher run around on the sand. Are you believing this day?
We relaxed, swam a bit and then upstairs for a bath and second nap. Fisher laid down. We showered and awaited the 6pm babysitter. Yes! Morgan was coming over again (she watched Fisher last night for a couple hours while we went to a screening) and she rocks! We had 6:30p reservations at Ola’s (yes, again. It’s that incredible.) We’re all dressed in our super-fly resort wear. I had my new jewels on. We looked hot.
So we sat at the best seat in the house at Ola’s. A raised table that looks straight at the beach, covered by the roof, but no windows so you feel like you’re floating on the sand. The water was about 50 feet away. The sun was setting. Just enough clouds in the sky to paint a pinky-red picture perfect sunset. Maragritas, manhattans, the BEST pork nachos, Mai Tais, Steaks, mashed potatoes, asparagus…oh la la…
After dinner, we had to do a little walking. We rolled up on a wedding (because there is always a wedding going off here) – and across the way in the dark grassy meadow, we borrowed the wedding’s music and grooved our dance moves under the moon. We thought we were pretty hidden, but then we noticed the wedding photographer creeping away from the wedding to take our picture.
After dancing, we needed to unwind from our strenuous day. In our stellar way, we had brought our swimsuits in a bag to dinner – so we got suited up and hopped in the hot tub. More stars, More moon gazing. Soooooo relaxingggggg….We got out, lounged in some poolside chairs (yes, it was that warm outside) and tried to absorb the reality of our lives.
All of the above night festivities and it was only 9:30p. What a night. Came upstairs. Fisher was digging his babysitter. After a little update on their evening, Morgan said her goodbyes. Within an hour, we were all asleep…mmmmm.
Truly, it doesn’t get much better.
